I've just started reading about the requirements for FL homeschool and they talk about keeping a portfolio, making it available for inspection by a district school superintendent, Provide an annual educational evaluation for the student's educational process to the school district superintendent, Being tested once a year, etc... How in the world do you keep up with that on the road?

I've been with Florida unschoolers for 3 yrs now. None of that is required plus its registered with the state as a private school. Plus its free.

The easiest way I can think of would be getting your tags and drivers license there. As for an address, if you are planning on being in Florida, use the Rv parks address or look into a mail service temporarily until you have all your paperwork in order. This may help. http://www.stateofflorida.com/Portal/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid=38

Just use a FL forwarding service. Then you'll need tags, license, register to vote, etc. You just "move" there like a normal move. We did this spring, but still haven't managed to actually get there!

I really like the whole umbrella school idea. Since I've never home schooled I am a little paranoid... Is the FU accredited/ registered? Will my kids get a diploma at the end of high school or are they going to have to take a GED test? How about scholarship opportunities and college????
Ohhhh so many questions!

Read the site, there's a lot of info there. Not accredited, no diploma. You can do GED, go through a college, or make your own transcript. Plenty of scholarship opportunities.

This is all very interesting information to me. Thank you. I live in Florida and assumed I would just sign the kids up for virtual school when we were ready to hit the road. I heard the main downfall to that is that I will need a relliable internet connection so they could do it. I figured since it will be a few years before we hit the road that wouldn't be too difficult but I will look into this more too.

Thanks for this info. I know this thread is a bit old, but still helpful! I was curious about the personal property tax in FL. I heard it can be high. Do you have to pay it on your RV since you have residency there and about how much if you don't mind me asking. Thanks!
